Lukken are thin, crisp waffle biscuits — a Flemish classic. The brown sugar caramelises during baking, giving them their distinctive golden colour and that unique, satisfying crunch.
In Flanders, it is an old tradition to give Lukken at New Year to wish friends and family well for the year ahead. The word ‘luk’ or ‘lukken’ is related to ‘geluk’, which means to wish someone well. But you do not need to wait for New Year — you can share that wish and the biscuit all year round.
Ingredients We Use
Light Brown Sugar
When the sugar bakes it caramelizes, giving the crisp character to the biscuits. This sugar gives the waffles their typical golden-brown colour.
Butter
We use real butter in all our waffles; it makes all the difference in taste. Nothing beats the rich flavour of butter.
Eggs
We use fresh eggs in all our batters; they are the glue that brings all ingredients together for that perfect waffle.
